About Me

Hello, thanks for visiting. I’m Jorge Gomez, website designer by day and freelance graphic designer by night. I’ve been hooked since way back in 1997 when I began to dabble in web design. Little did I know, that dissecting websites and teaching myself HTML when I was bored was the start of my career as a designer.
I attended the University of Minnesota and received a bachelor’s degree in Design Communication. During college, with the help of a few friends, I created an online magazine called Skeptic Industries. It was a site dedicated to aggressive inline skating, and surprisingly became quite well known throughout the world. I was a bit sad to move on to bigger and better things, but creating Skeptic was one of the best things that I could have done to prepare myself as a designer.
After college, my first job was for a printing company. Most of design the work I did there was advertising and packaging design. I also did pre-flighting for customer files and produced printing plates. It was completely different than web design and the things I learned there were invaluable. I’m still surprised at how much of design for print was NOT taught in school and it just goes to show you that there is nothing like hands on experience.
Currently, I’m working as a website designer for a large company in Edina, Minnesota. Getting back into web design after three years at the printing company was like coming home and throwing on your favorite pair of jeans. I didn’t know how much I missed it until I was back at it again. My position is solely dedicated to website design and sometimes I crank out 2 or 3 websites a week. All I can say is that since I’ve started at my current position, I’ve really gotten a chance to hone my CSS and Photoshop skills!
Thanks again for stopping by!
